New! Himiway D5 2.0 20×4 with Dual Suspension

This might be one of the best 20×4 fat-tire e-bikes I have reviewed so far this year. I recently got my hands on the new Himiway D5 2.0 (20-inch version), priced at $1,999, and put it through a complete battery of real-world road, hill, and off-road trail tests.

Here is my breakdown of how it performed, where it shines, and a few quirks you should know before buying.

The Ride Experience & Standout Features

1. Plush Dual Suspension

At 180 lbs, the bounciness and dampening of this setup impressed me immediately. Between the 90mm front fork, the 100mm rear shock, and the wide memory foam saddle, the D5 2.0 effortlessly soaked up root-covered trails, small dirt jumps, and choppy pavement.

2. Intuitive “Auto PAS” Mode

One of Himiway’s biggest differentiators here is the Auto assist mode. Think of it like an automatic transmission for pedal assist: instead of constantly clicking through Eco, Tour, Sport, and Turbo, the system automatically detects terrain changes. When I hit steep climbs, it fed in more juice; once the road flattened out, it smoothly eased off to preserve battery.

3. Speed and Hill Climbing

After unlocking Class 3 speeds in the display menu (access code 0510), the 1300W peak motor pushed me right up to an indicated 28–29 mph on flat stretches. On my standard test hill—a brutal 10% grade—it held a steady 12 mph under moderate pedaling effort, performing right on par with top-tier 750W powertrains. On an even steeper 15% grade, the Auto mode kept momentum without requiring a single manual PAS change.

4. Real-World Range Expectations

Running full-throttle on PAS 5, I logged about 21 miles on a single charge. With normal pedal assistance across mixed modes, you can expect between 20 to 40 miles per battery.

Room for Improvement

While the build quality is premium, a couple of minor details stood out:

  • The Power Button Delay: Turning the bike on requires holding down the power button for what feels like an eternity (3+ seconds).
  • Sizing Limits: With a 70-inch footprint and 20-inch wheels, Himiway recommends this for riders 4’11” to 6’3″. At 6 feet tall, I was right on the cusp of fitting comfortably with the seat post and adjustable stem raised. If you are taller than 6’2″, you’ll likely be better served by the 26×4 format of the D5.
  • Non-Folding: At 80 lbs and without a folding frame, you will need a sturdy hitch rack to haul it.

The Verdict

The Himiway D5 2.0 delivers an exceptionally smooth, quiet, and capable ride. Between the responsive Tektro hydraulic brakes, confident 20×4 Kenda tires, integrated frame turn signals, and plush suspension, it is a very complete, well-engineered package for both city commuting and rugged trail exploring.
