Aventon Abound SR May Be Most Secure Ebike Ever Made

In my first ever review of an Aventon ebike I chose the Abound SR. They are one of the top brands in our industry and you can find their ebikes in over 1,800 dealers nationwide. It currently sells for $1899 and comes in blue, purple and black.

Buy the Aventon Abound SR

The Abound SR is positioned as a utility ebike and is a shorter version of the long tale Abound cargo ebike but the SR has some really interesting technology. It has an ACU (aventon control unit) which allows riders to lock the bike, track, geofence it and more. When you lock the ebike it also locks the kickstand in place. You almost don’t need a lock!

The SR is class 2 (20ph) but you can unlock it in the mobile app to go up to 25mph. The rear motor is a 750 watt with 80 nm of torque. The battery is a large 19.8AH in the form of 36 Volt with LG cells. It is UL listed. There are 3 levels of assist and a claimed range of 60 miles.

Sizing

Payload capacity comes in at a hefty 440 lbs. Rider heights is 4″11 to 6″3 and the step thru frame has a stand over height of just 17 inches. You can adjust the stem upwards if needed and the seatpost is suspension based. The ebike weighs 80 lbs with the battery.

Lighting

A small front headlight, rear brake like with turn signals. A small left side color display on the handlebars.

Tires & Brakes

The Abound SR comes with 20×3 urban street tires with reflective strip. Tektro Hydraulic disk brakes with a 203mm rotor in the rear and 180mm up front.

Gearing

52T chainring, 8 speed trigger shifter, Shimano Altus, 12-32T Cassette. It also has a torque sensor for a more real work pedal experience.

Th app is also impressive and allows you to change any setting from your phone. When you get the ebike you’ll need to go tot he display setting and “connect’ the ebike by bringing up a QR code and pairing it with your phone. It gives you over the air updates, 4G GPS tracking, remote lock with Geofencing and ride tuning.

Summary

There isn’t much I dislike about the Abound SR. The display is small and hard to read. There is no key so you have to remove the battery by going into the display settings to unlock it. The fit and finish of the ebike is terrific. With all the technology it comes with it seems like a great value for the $1,899. All the color choices are great and the SR has a very premium feel.
